Job Description:
APPOINTMENT: April 1, 2021

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary - The primary function of the Academic Advisor is to provide academic planning services for undergraduate, graduate, and prospective students in disciplines represented in the College of Business and Technology.
1. Advise undergraduate and graduate students (enrolled, reentry, and prospective) pursuing majors and/or minors, within Business.
2. Work in partnership with Departments/Schools regarding student enrollment issues including: course overloads, enforced pre-requisite report, and granting special permissions on restrictions.
3. Knowledge of degree requirements with the ability to communicate requirements to the students.
4. Remain cognizant of University and College policies, procedures, requirements and facilities of the University.
5. Act as an intermediary for students with administrative offices and committees such as: Admissions, C.A.G.A.S., Registrar, and others.
6. Maintain and keep current academic records on all assigned advisees.
7. Coordinate and monitor the GradTrac plan for advisees enrolled in the program.
8. Advise students seeking a second baccalaureate degree and process degree plan.
9. Serve as a resource regarding the Departmental internship process.
10. Serve as a resource for the articulation of course(s) from other institutions.
11. Advise and assist new students at freshmen and transfer registration programs.
12. Refer students to appropriate University resources when needed.
13. Provide preliminary personal and/or career counseling and referral to other University support resources when appropriate.
14. Process appropriate substitutions, special permissions and waivers as approved or directed by Chairs/Directors.
15. Establish and maintain a positive working relationship with faculty, students, administration, and advisors throughout the university specifically within the College of Business and Technology.
16. Serve as a resource to assist in the development and refinement of curriculum requirements for liaison departments.

Secondary
1. Represent WIU and the College at events that promote and contribute to the advancement of the University academic community, such as major departmental recruiting events and the WIU articulation conference.
2. Update advising materials for business disciplines.
3. Review model degree plans and recruitment materials for areas of business
4. Manage Study Abroad opportunities within college and meet with student about exploring the option.
5. Perform other related duties as assigned (less than 1% of job responsibilities).

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum qualifications include the earned Master's degree in Business, Counseling, College Student Personnel, a related degree and/or experience in collegiate advising. Ability to work well with people -- students, parents, faculty and administration -- is essential.

For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). Unless otherwise stated, the degree must be"in hand" at the time of application.

THE DEPARTMENT: The College of Business and Technology (CBT) has 1615 undergraduate majors, 352 graduate students, and 110 full-time faculty. It is accredited by AACSB International at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

THE UNIVERSITY: Since 1902, Western Illinois University has provided outstanding educational opportunities to individuals in west central Illinois and well beyond our region and state. WIU's traditional residential campus in Macomb, Illinois, is the educational, cultural and athletic center of the region, while the WIU-Quad Cities non-residential branch campus in Moline, Illinois, is the only public university in the immediate Quad Cities region.

WIU-Quad Cities: The only public university in the Quad Cities area, WIU-QC offers select undergraduate and graduate programs, including a doctorate in education and a doctorate in environmental studies, at its non-residential campus in Moline, IL (population 44,000).

WIU's Macomb campus is the educational, cultural and athletic center of the region. Annually, 12 major theatrical and dance productions and studio shows are performed, along with outstanding concerts, lectures, presentations, films, dance performances and more. The Gwendolyn Brooks and Casa Latina cultural centers offer programs and activities focusing on Black and Hispanic cultures, while the Women's Center promotes gender equity through education, support and advocacy. WIU's student organization for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning and ally (LGBTQ*A) community provides resources, support and programming. The University's athletics program, based on the Macomb campus, sponsors 17 NCAA Division I intercollegiate men's and women's varsity sports. Football competes in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision through the Missouri Valley Football Conference; all other varsity sports compete at the Division I level through The Summit League.
